The recent phenomenon sweeping the UK is that of ‘killer clowns’.
There have been numerous sightings, videos and photos reported online of people dressed up in clown outfits, often brandishing weapons or behaving otherwise threateningly. While some see the trend as harmless fun, there is certainly a more serious edge to the whole thing. The NSPCC reported that they received a total of 120 calls from children scared or worried about these ‘creepy clowns’ one week in early October. Of these 120, one-quarter were aged 11 or under. The most common caller location was Birmingham, where 26 children sought advice, guidance or counseling from Childline.
This chart shows the number of calls received by Childline regarding ‘creepy clowns’.
