An Egyptian hospital has been shut down with two doctors referred for prosecution after a teenage girl died while undergoing an illegal female circumcision procedure.
Although Egypt criminalised such procedures in 2008, they are still conducted frequently across the country. The U.N. General Assembly unanimously approved a resolution calling for a global ban on female genital mutilation (FMG) in 2012.
