The average number of paid vacation days available to workers tends to vary considerably across the world.
Some countries, such as the United States, get a pretty raw deal. In fact, the United States is one of the only countries in the world with no statutory minimum holiday leave. The average American worker can expect 12 paid days off each year compared to 27 for someone in Britain and 30 for someone in Germany.
Do workers in Germany and Britain actually make use of their generous vacation allowance? A YouGov poll shows that they do. 75 percent of British workers and 71 percent of German workers stated that they intend taking all of their paid leave this year. Some common reasons for not taking the full holiday allowance include saving days for a longer holiday next year or simply never getting around to taking the time off. Some employees also want to avoid appearing lazy in front of a boss or colleague while others simply enjoy their work too much to take vacation.
