The issue of gender inequality in the US film industry has been highlighted often.
A new report has now revealed just how little women appear in front of the camera or orchestrate events behind it. According to the report, entitled “Inequality in 700 popular films“, female speaking characters appeared in Hollywood movies only 28.1 percent of the time in 2014. Indeed, only 21 out of the top 100 films last year featured a female lead or co lead.
This chart shows the prevalence of females in 700 Hollywood films.
