- Citi forecasts Greek devastation, unstoppable debt spirals in Italy and Portugal (Ambrose Evans-Pritchard, The Telegraph)
- 10 things Obamacare won’t tell you (Jen Wieczner, Market Watch, The Wall Street Journal) Hat tip to Russell Huntley. For more about private HIX (health insurance exchanges) that are mentioned in this article read GEI News here and here. There have been other articles on past ‘What We Read Today’ lists. In one case, Walgreens’ termination of their group health plan for 120,000 employees was mentioned, with a shift to employees selecting their individual coverage on a private HIX with the company subsidizing premiums in lieu of contributions to the former group plan. One possible evolution of distribution of health insurance would be to merge private and public exchanges into larger and large consolidated exchanges and eventually to a single unified national exchange. This will solve a current problem that occurs because sparsely populated rural ares in individual states are not getting insurers competing for for business because of the low volumes. The rural areas of many adjacent states within a region can be combined in the integrated exchange(s) to create a client pool worth competing for.
