Econintersect: An annual event at which the press corps covering the White House, various celebrities and political figures hobnob with each other and get to hear a few speeches of an (attempted) humorous nature. The president speaks and an invited celebrity toastmaster, this year Conan O’Brien of late night TV fame, attempted to impart some light-hearted remarks. The president closed on a serious note:
…reminding the audience of the important role the media plays in American society, especially during times of crisis like the Boston Marathon bombings and the explosion that killed so many first responders in West, Texas. (From The White House Blog)

One political personage not in attendance had some critical comments. Sarah Palin slammed the entire event: It was “pathetic“, a “nerdprom” attended by “assclowns” she wrote on Twitter.
