Facebook Strongest On Home Ground

by Felix Richter, Statista.com

-- this post authored by Niall McCarthy

Facebook's turnover figures rarely fail to impress.

Definition: Asset turnover measures how quickly a company turns over its asset through sales. It is calculated as Revenue divided by Average Total Assets. (gurufocus)

In the third quarter of 2016, the world's largest social network generated 2.5 billion dollars more than in the previous year. However, the geographic distribution of all that success is less impressive. The North American market is responsible for 51 percent of the company's turnover even though a mere 13 percent of its users live there.

Europe's 19 percent of users account for 23 percent of turnover. Over two-thirds of Facebook's users live in Asia and the rest of the world and they only account for just over a quarter of the social network's turnover. That's a lot of untapped potential.

This chart shows the geographic distribution of Facebook's users and turnover in Q3 2016.
