The averages started climbing late in the afternoon to +0.5% only to fall precipitously, losing session gains, but closing out its second-best week of the year. The oils rose plus 5% for the session and gold fell below 1194.00.

By 4 pm investors were enjoying the 'spoils' of the Santa Claus rally and are in a party mode.

Markets have maintained a bullish stance since this mornings opening, trading sideways on falling volume indicating a consolidation phase.

By noon there appears to be some weakness and a trending down which could be nothing more than session 'softness'.

Premarkets were up +0.4% following yesterday's the DOW's 400 point rise. The markets opened up as expected, but then some short-lived heavy selling dropped the averages to yesterday's closing numbers. The DOW went negative for a few minutes and climbed back into the green and sea-sawed sideways.

By 10 am the averages were trying to edge upwards with investors dipping their toes to test the waters.

Afternoon markets were trying to make up their collective minds what they wanted to do. The vote came in and up they went over two percentage points ending the day in a spectacular fashion.

By 4 pm the averages provided fireworks for the unbelievers and it isn't out of the question to see new historic highs tomorrow.

This rally that started out strong has not gone far, up or down. Volume has waned, even fallen to extremely low, but the trading continues to be sideways.

By noon, the averages were enjoying a plus 1.6% ride in the green with a fractional trend higher, but not topping the morning highs - yet.

Market Commentary: Santa Clause Rally Underway, DOW Up 244 Points

Premarket was up over one percent this morning signaling a robust opening. The number of Americans filing for first-time unemployment benefits fell last week to 289,000 which fractionally pushed the futures upward. Markets opened up as expected and quickly pushed the numbers past one percent.

By 10 trading was moderate, sea-sawing sideways and volume falling off but fractionally melting up continued.
