Seven of the most powerful individuals in world football were arrested by police in Zürich this morning.
The FIFA officials allegedly accepted bribes worth up to $100 million over the past two decades. The organisation’s president, Sepp Blatter, was not among them.
FIFA’s revenue is booming. In 2014, the tax exempt non-profit organisation generated $2 billion in revenue, helped by the success of the World Cup in Brazil. Ten years ago, the 2006 World Cup in Germany “only” helped FIFA generate $749 million.
