According to a new report from UNICEF titled Generation 2030 - Africa, the African continent is set to experience a drastic population increase over the next few decades.

Follow up:

Given the high fertility rates and a rising number of women in reproductive age, UNICEF predicts nearly two billion babies to be born in Africa over the next 35 years.

While all other continents will at best see smaller population increases, Africa's population could quadruple by the end of the century. Currently the second largest continent behind Asia, Africa would then be the most populous continent potentially accounting for up to 40% of the world's population.

This chart illustrates the demographic shift that Africa is expected to experience over the next few decades.
