Google recently launched its new line of smartwatches at a developer conference and the question of compatibility has rarely been raised since.
However, it has now emerged that Android Wear will only be compatible with less than a quarter of all Android devices – smartphones and tablets. The new wearables will only work for those running version 4.3 and 4.4. The rest of people using older versions of the operating system will have to upgrade their handsets/tablets before they get their hands on the new smartwatches.
This chart shows active devices running Android by version and smartwatch compatibility.
