According to the blog TalkTechToMe, 4,794 vulnerabilities in operating systems, programs and hardware were discovered last year.

The National Vulnerability Database forms the basis of the study. Accordingly, Oracle, Cisco and Microsoft were the most often affected and 94 percent of discovered security vulnerabilities related to software.

The operating systems most commonly affected were Windows Server 2008, Windows 7 and Windows Vista. The programs with the most vulnerabilities were Internet Explorer, Java and Chrome.
