States with the Highest Real Estate Taxes

bisonSMALLEconintersect:  There is a top ten list at Investment News that you hope not to find your state on.  The list is presented in the form of a slide show count down starting with #10 North Dakota and ending with #1.  Some of the photographs alone are worth the visit to the site (link under “Source” below).  However, the photograph for state #1 is guaranteed to make you think there are more reasons than  high taxes to want not to live there.

Follow up:

To this editor’s surprise two states that he felt sure would make the list, New York and Massachusetts, are not there.  That doesn’t mean they are low tax states; it simply means that they have an average rate that is less than North Dakota’s 1.42%.  There is quite a jump to #9 (1.59%) but you’ll have to go to the slide show to find out what state that is.  By the time you get to #1 the average tax rate is 1.89%.

The picture below accompanies the North Dakota listing but no specific information is given about this state resident’s individual tax rate.
