Econintersect: There has much discussion in recent months about U.S. Treasury Secretary stepping down after the debt ceiling limit was raised. Things were heard in the rumor mill like “spend more time with family” and “pursue other interests.” But Sunday (Aug. 7) the rumors were put to bed as Geithner announced he would be staying on at Treasury. The announcement came after administration officials had signaled that both Obama and White House chief of staff William Daley had urged him not to leave now, according to Reuters.After the announcemnt was made the White House issued a statement. “The president asked Secretary Geithner to stay on at Treasury and welcomes his decision,” White House spokesman Jay Carney said in a statement.
