Egypt ETF Surges

pyramids of giza egypt5b15d Econintersect:  The Egyptian stock remained closed today as civil unrest continued to rock the country.  However the ETF EGPT, trading on the New York Stock Exchange, rebounded almost 8% Monday.  This followed a 22% decline over the ten days ending January 28. The dramatic stock price chart is shown below.  Other Middle Eastern and North African markets traded in a less dramatic range.

Trading Monday in other markets:

Up markets were Oman +1.6%, Abu Dhabi +1%, Israel +0.9%, Kuwait +0.6%, Qatar +0.4% and Palestine +0.04%.

Down markets were Jordan -0.04%, Bahrain -0.2%, Dubai -0.6%, Saudi Arabia -1%, Lebanon -1.5%, Morocco -2% and Tunisia -2.6%.
